Installation of new safety screens

30 November 2009

Work to install safety screens on pedestrian bridges over the Eastern Distributor will begin from Sunday 6 December.

The screens will be installed on Arthur, Parkham and Charles Street pedestrian bridges throughout December. Work on Woolloomooloo and Moore Park Garden's bridges are planned to occur early next year.

The screens are designed to reduce the opportunity for objects to be thrown from overhead footbridges onto the motorway below.

Details of work zones during the December installations are:

Footbridge Dates of closure Alternative pedestrian access
Charles Street 6 – 9 and 16 – 18 Dec Cleveland St and Moore Park Gardens
Parkham Street 10 – 11 and 13 – 15 Dec Cleveland Street and Arthur Street
Arthur Street 17 – 19 December Parkham Street

The planned dates for the work are detailed above, however these may change due to weather conditions and the amount of work required.

The work will involve the progressive installation of safety screens and will require the use of trucks, portable lighting and cranes. Noisy works will not occur every night throughout this period.

The management of the Eastern Distributor apologises for any inconvenience caused during this essential work.
